Hiking

Yesterday was beautiful so we headed to Thunderbird Falls, which was a lot of fun.  Then we headed to Mirror Lake for a picnic.  The boys and I skipped the midnight game, which we won.  Today we rested getting ready for the road trip tomorrow to Fairbanks.  We went on a hike with a local (with bear spray and all) to Eagle River.  It was fun and thankfully we saw no bears, but we did see 5 moose!

Home Opener and Beyond

Monday we had our home opener with a  great crowd to cheer on the Chinooks. It was a busy event for the whole Beck family.  Ryan ran the scoreboard, Ty was the bat boy, Jackson helped sell merchandise (and has since been promoted to music man), Chris of course ran on field and I ran the merchandise and everything else.  It is busy running a stadium, but we are so excited that the town is so excited.  We probably had about 400 people there opening night.
Our players are awesome and have worked hard to help get everything ready.  Yesterday after discipleship, during BP, they ran up to Chris and ask him spiritual questions regarding the topic he had just taught on of Idols of our Heart.  It is awesome to see their hunger for the things of God.   They are extremely kick back and get along together great.
Last night we had our second home game, which ran much smoother.  We won against the Kenai Oilers.  Today the team will play at 10pm against the Pilots....yep a midnight game.  Monday we head up to Fairbanks for a couple of days

The following is a link to a broadcast about the team.http://www.ktva.com/home/outbound-xml-feeds/1Faith-Based-Baseball-Team-Finds-Home-in-Eagle-River-159307595.html

In the last few days

This week we attempted to have our home opener, but we got rained out twice.  We will try again tomorrow.  We have played three games and won them all.  The boys are thrilled to use the air horn while cheering on our team.  We have even inspired some other Chinook fans and we are quite the rowdy bunch.  The guys are great and all seem to get along well.  They have been working hard getting the field ready and even building the batting cage.  Our family moved up to Eagle River yesterday on our day off.  We are house sitting for a family who is visiting their family on the east coast, while the husband is deployed in Afghanistan.  Pray for the Schmidt Family...we are blessed to be staying in their home.

Happy Birthday Chris

Happy 40th Birthday Chris!
Well we usually are in California and he gets thrown in the pool.  So instead we surprised him at discipleship with cupcakes.  Mind you he took all the exciting 40th stuff off within seconds.  Actually he celebrated last month with, his brother, sky diving!

Honoring DM

Today our family went to the Anchorage Bucs game to honor our friend, Dennis Mattingly.  He was the General Manager and owner of the Anchorage Bucs.  He had been our since we arrived in Alaska 12 years ago. He had often treated Chris like a son.   He died this last winter of cancer.  It was sad to go to the field, where he devoted so much of his time, and he was no longer there.  Chris had shared the Gospel with him, yet we are unsure if he ever made a decision for Christ.  We pray that we would be a testimony to the General Managers of the teams that we work with up here in Alaska.  Pray that this year we will have opportunities to share our hope that is in Christ Alone!

Thanks for praying

Thanks for praying.  We have found a place to live.  We found an apartment for June in Anchorage.  We will move to Eagle River in July.  We are thankful to have found a place. The guys had their second discipleship and practice today!  Pray for them!

Guys arrive

We got into Alaska last Thursday and the players arrive today.  This year our training camp isn't in California, it is here in Alaska.  Pray that although it will be different, that the guys will have open hearts and bond with one another.  Opening day is a week from today.  Pray also that we would be able to secure housing for our family.  We are still in a hotel and uncertain of what to do next.  Thanks for praying!
